To better understand your needs and help Feds fulfill its mission, the implementation of a long-range plan and campus wide focus groups has been put into action. These exercises will most certainly help provide valuable feedback to Feds and offer an alternative forum for students to have their say.

This process is only the beginning of a much larger movement whose final product will truly help guide future executive, councillors and staff in making stronger, more representative and engaging decisions.

Over the past year, the Federation of Students has celebrated many major successes and transformations. Some great projects are well on their way to completion and most importantly our long term visioning is helping Feds gain some valuable information about our current environment and future opportunities.

In the University community we have seen a major changes in leadership as over the past few months. Feridun Hamdullahpur has brought a refreshing student focused approach to the Vice President Academic and Provost portfolio, Catharine Scott Associate Provost Student Services has retired after years of service, and Heather Westmoreland has taken over as Director of the Student Life Office. These shifts in conjunction with many others are making big waves on our campus.

I have had the privilege of sitting on countless committees, councils, and boards that represent a wide variety of student interests, and as your President I’ve proven myself to be a vocal proponent for you.

The months ahead will truly be a monumental time for us at Waterloo, and I look forward to working with you in exciting and collaborative ways to make Waterloo a community we are proud to call home.

As your Federation of Students President, I promised to engage not only the student body, but our faculty, staff, and alumni in all aspects of student life – academic, extra-curricular, and social.

This past year has been an exceptional one. From deferring Orientation 2010 to the developing the Student Services Complex and Health Services Expansion, or defeating Saturday midterms, there have been endless issues and opportunities affecting the student experience at Waterloo.

Over the past five years, I have familiarized myself with many aspects of student life in our community. At Waterloo, I have held the elected position of President of the Federation of Students and Arts Student Union, a Don at UWP, and captain of the UW varsity cheerleading team. I am ready to continue my responsibilities, complete exciting new projects and test some new initiatives that I have developed as your President.

My diverse and comprehensive experiences have allowed me to develop insights into the many issues students face on a daily basis, but also into the potential for our student body to effect change and better our campus for future generations.

I can relate to the importance of strong academic support and the need for extracurricular involvement. In my experience, it is the surrounding community which fosters the success and enjoyment of one’s time spent here.

What an exceptional time to be an undergraduate student and member of the Federation of Students (Feds) here at the University of Waterloo!

As your President I have had the pleasure of watching our community grow over the past nine months. My passion and drive to help better the lives of students on campus has only matured and strengthened. I am excited to be running again for President of the Federation of Students, to advance important student issues facing the UW community in the coming year.

With over 24,000 full-time students leading our innovative community, Waterloo has become a catalyst for learning, sharing, connecting, and influencing change at all levels of our society.

Another year of successes has passed and a new decade is just around the corner. Every day there are new ideas upon us and greater opportunities knocking at our door. The Federation of Students is off to a great start and it is evident this year will grow to be one of the best!

As you President of the Federation of Students I am here to act as your voice in nearly every aspect of student government. I look to you to act as my eyes and ears across campus – identifying issues and highlighting opportunities, which will make our community the best it can be. Together we will act as the hands, which strive to lay a foundation for a stronger tomorrow.

Please contact me and share your thoughts and feelings with me about our campus and community. Add me to Facebook, send me an email (ababor@uwaterloo.ca) or give me a call (519-590-2665) anytime!
